Counting of votes in the 182 assembly seats in Gujarat and 68 in Himachal Pradesh is underway.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in power in both states with Congress as its principal opposition. The entry of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had made it a triangular contest in many seats, especially in Gujarat.

In Gujarat, the BJP is leading in 154 seats, the Congress in 18 and AAP in six. The BJP has declared Bhupendra Patel as its CM candidate in Gujarat. The majority mark in the 182-member Gujarat Legislative Assembly is 92.

Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, BJP – the ruling party is staring at defeat with Congress leading in nearly 40 seats.

35 seats are needed to attain the majority mark in Himachal.

The Aam Aadmi Party has failed to open its account in the hill state. (Agencies)

More details awaited.
