Kathua, June 14, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against Head Constable Roshan Din (No. 432/K), posted at Police Station Kathua, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to delete a person’s name from an FIR, before fleeing during a trap operation.
According to a statement issued to news agency KDC by the ACB, a complaint was received alleging that Roshan Din, the investigating officer of FIR No. 193/2025 registered at Police Station Kathua, demanded a bribe of ₹25,000 from the complainant. The bribe was allegedly sought in exchange for removing the complainant’s name from the list of accused, despite the latter having provided CCTV footage and factory attendance records to support his innocence.
Following negotiations, the accused officer reportedly agreed to accept ₹15,000. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB for legal action.
A discreet verification confirmed the allegations, leading to the registration of FIR No. 12/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Jammu. A trap team led by a Gazetted officer was constituted to nab the accused red-handed.
During the trap operation, Roshan Din accepted the ₹15,000 bribe but, upon sensing the presence of the ACB team, fled the scene and threw the tainted currency notes into nearby bushes along the National Highway near Palli. The money was later recovered by independent witnesses and seized as evidence.
Subsequently, a search was carried out at the residence of the accused in the presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses. However, the accused remains absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.
The investigation in the matter is ongoing. (KDC)
