SRINAGAR: The Special Judicial Magistrate, for CBI cases, at Panchkula (Haryana), has sentenced two accused private persons namely Aditya Bhardwaj @ Bhanu and Deepak Jain @ DC @ DJto 2.5 years’ Imprisonment in a cybercrime case targeting Indian National Residing Abroad.

According to a press statement, CBI registered the instant case on 27.09.2016 against said accused on allegations that accused were involved in the defrauding of Indian nationals residing in Singapore. It was also alleged that the victims were deceived through impersonation and false threats of legal action and were coerced into transferring money under the pretext of fabricated legal cases and alleged passport irregularities.

The case was investigated by the CBI based on detailed analysis of digital evidence, financial transactions, and communications used in the commission of the crime.

The Court observed that the acts committed constituted a grave breach of trust, particularly when carried out by individuals with legal and professional responsibilities.

The judgment serves as a strong deterrent against the misuse of digital platforms and professional expertise to exploit innocent citizens, especially those residing abroad. After investigation, chargesheet was filed by CBI on 22.12.2020 against the accused. The Court , after trial, found accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
