The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association expressed deep grief and anguish over the tragic and untimely demise of Aryan Razdan, a BBA second-year student from Jammu and Kashmir, who allegedly died by suicide in his hostel room at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Jhanjeri, Mohali.

In a statement issued National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, said that Aryan allegedly took the extreme step after being distressed over an incident during his examination. He was reportedly caught using a mobile phone during the exam, after which he returned to his hostel and ended his life by hanging.

Khuehami stated that DSP Kharar, Karan Singh Sandhu, informed the Association that, based on the available evidence and witness statements, this appears to be a clear case of suicide. During the investigation, anti-depressant medicines were recovered from Aryan’s room, indicating he may have been struggling with mental health issues. He had returned to college from home just a day before the incident. His body was shifted to the mortuary at the Civil Hospital in Kharar, where a post-mortem was conducted.

Khuehami emphasized that Aryan’s sudden death has left the student fraternity across the country shocked and heartbroken. His passing is a painful reminder of the silent battles many students fight every day, battles with stress, isolation, fear of failure, and mental health issues that often go unnoticed and unaddressed.

The recovery of anti-depressant medication from his room suggests a quiet struggle he may have endured without adequate support or understanding. “We express our deepest condolences to Aryan’s family and loved ones. No words can ease the pain of this heartbreaking loss. We stand in solidarity with his family,” the statement said.

The National General Secretary of the Association, Aadil Bhat, stressed that student suicides are not isolated tragedies; they reflect a systemic failure to recognize and respond to the mental and emotional needs of young people. In the pursuit of academic excellence, the emotional well-being of students must not be neglected. Suicide is preventable if mental health is treated with the urgency, seriousness, and compassion it deserves.

“We urge all educational institutions to immediately strengthen their mental health frameworks, appoint trained counsellors, conduct regular mental wellness sessions, and cultivate an environment where students feel safe, heard, and supported. A culture of silence and stigma must be replaced with one of empathy and care. May Aryan’s soul rest in peace. May this tragedy awaken our collective conscience. No student should ever feel alone, he added.
