SRINAGAR, Apr 22: In the wake of the deadly terror attack on tourists at Baisaran near Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, directing him to take all necessary and immediate measures to ensure the situation is brought under control and those responsible are brought to justice.

Government sources confirmed to Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com that the Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the incident and stressed the need for swift action. He also urged the Home Minister to personally visit the site of the attack to oversee the situation on the ground.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah has convened an emergency meeting in New Delhi to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The high-level meeting is expected to be attended by top officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, intelligence agencies, and central paramilitary forces.

Earlier in the day, a terrorist attack at Baisaran left one tourist confirmed dead, with visuals circulating on social media showing three to four more presumed dead and several others injured, some critically. The deceased has been identified as Shalinder Kalpiya, while among the injured are tourists from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha.

Security forces have launched an extensive combing operation in the dense forest area around Baisaran, and high-level administrative officials are on the spot. (KDC)
