Srinagar, Apr 16 (KDC): A scheduled event in Sonawari on Wednesday turned tense after MLA Hilal Akbar Lone allegedly misbehaved with media persons, drawing strong condemnation from the local journalist fraternity.
According to media persons, the legislator, who had invited journalists through his personal assistant to cover the programme, allegedly misbehaved with one of the reporters. The situation escalated when Lone reportedly turned his anger towards other media persons present at the venue, displaying what was described as “arrogant behaviour.”
The Sonawari Journalists Association, in a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com, termed the MLA’s conduct as “unacceptable” and condemned the incident in strong terms.
In a collective response, the association boycotted the event and issued a public statement denouncing any form of misbehaviour or shouting at media professionals. “Such treatment undermines the freedom and dignity of the press,” the statement said.
Reiterating its commitment to fair and unbiased reporting, the association also called upon public representatives to uphold decorum and show due respect to media personnel. (KDC)
