Srinagar, Apr 10 (KDC): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Srinagar on Thrusday arrested a revenue official and a Lamberdar red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 in a case involving a total demand of ₹50,000 for issuing revenue extracts required for a property sale.

According to the ACB, a written complaint was received alleging that Ayaz Ahmad Hurra, Girdawar of Chatabal, who is also holding additional charge of Patwari Halqa Habakadal and Halqa Shivpora, demanded ₹50,000 as a bribe for issuing revenue documents related to an old house in Mandir Bagh, Srinagar. The bribe demand was reportedly conveyed through a Lamberdar, Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh, who was acting as a middleman.

The complainant, who had already paid ₹30,000 earlier, was allegedly asked to pay the remaining ₹20,000 on Wednesday. Unwilling to pay further, the complainant approached ACB Srinagar and sought legal action against the accused, ACB said in a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

Following a pre-trap verification which confirmed the bribe demand, ACB registered FIR No. 06/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station ACB Srinagar.

A trap team was constituted, and the accused officer Ayaz Ahmad Hurra was caught red-handed while accepting ₹20,000 through Lamberdar Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh. Both were immediately taken into custody after the completion of legal formalities.

Further investigation into the case is underway, ACB added. (KDC)
