Srinagar, Feb 26, KDC: Authorities on Monday disallowed the Namaz-e-Janazah of Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, father-in-law of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq, at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar.
According to reports, security forces sealed the gates of Jama Masjid and cordoned off its surroundings, informing that the funeral prayers, scheduled to be held after Zuhr prayers, would not be permitted at the site.
In response, Mirwaiz Manzil issued a strong condemnation, criticizing the administration for what it termed an excessive display of force, even in moments of grief and religious observance.
“This act reflects the continued suppression of religious rights and interference in sacred traditions,” the statement from Mirwaiz Manzil read.
Following the restrictions, the funeral prayers for the deceased will now be offered at Masjid Wazir Mohammad Khan, Bagat Barzulla, at 2 PM.
