Srinagar, Feb 1, KDC: The Union Government has proposed an allocation of ₹41,000.07 crore for Jammu and Kashmir in the 2025-26 financial year, with no increase in central assistance from the previous year.
As per budgetary documents, ₹40,619.30 crore is earmarked as central assistance to bridge J&K’s resource gap. Additionally, ₹9,325.73 crore has been allocated to the J&K Police, which falls under the administrative control of the Union Home Ministry.
Of the police budget, ₹8,897.72 crore is set aside for revenue expenditure, while ₹428.01 crore is for capital expenditure. The financial provisions are meant to cover administrative costs and law enforcement duties.
Since 2024-25, J&K Police’s budget has been integrated into the Union Budget, a move the Centre claims is financial support, but which opposition parties argue reflects continued direct control over the J&K’s governance. (KDC)
