A mainstay of higher education, Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah says goodbye to his official position but leaves behind a lasting legacy that will keep the halls of learning bright.
An Intellectual Luminary and Multifaceted Scholar
Born on January 12, 1965, Prof. Mussaraf H. Shah has been a beacon of knowledge, earning prestigious academic credentials in multiple disciplines. Holding an M.Sc. in Chemistry, M.A. degrees in English and Sociology, and a B.Ed., his profound knowledge and interdisciplinary approach have enriched both academia and administration. His ability to seamlessly integrate various fields of study has made him an influential thought leader in the educational landscape.
The Guiding Light in Academia
Prof. Shah’s tenure as Principal of multiple esteemed colleges, including Govt. Degree College Poonch, Surankote, and Darhal, showcases his exceptional administrative acumen. Under his leadership, these institutions flourished academically and administratively, setting new benchmarks in quality education and institutional development.
As the Head of the Postgraduate Department of Chemistry at PG College Rajouri, he not only nurtured scientific temper among students but also spearheaded numerous research initiatives. His critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and rapid decision-making skills established him as a leader par excellence.
Transforming Institutions: A Visionary Administrator
A distinguished hallmark of Prof. Shah’s career is his instrumental role in enhancing institutional quality. As Coordinator and Chairman of Internal Quality Assurance Cells (IQAC) across various colleges, he was pivotal in securing high NAAC accreditation grades. His efforts led to Govt. Degree College Poonch achieving an ‘A’ grade, a testament to his commitment to academic excellence.
Moreover, his membership in the Divisional Level NAAC Committee for Jammu division colleges positioned him as a key contributor to shaping higher education policies in Jammu & Kashmir.
A Champion of Student Welfare and Community Engagement
Beyond the walls of academia, Prof. Shah’s service to students and society has been exemplary. Serving as Warden of Boys Hostel at GDC Poonch for seven years, he ensured a nurturing environment for students. As an NSS Programme Officer, he instilled values of community service, national integration, and social responsibility among the youth.
His presidency of the Pir Panjal Foundation for Peace and Communal Harmony underscores his deep-rooted commitment to societal well-being. Through this organization, he worked tirelessly to foster unity, peace, and national integration.

One of the most notable contributions of Prof. Shah has been his commitment to quality enhancement in education. As the Chairman of IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) in multiple institutions, he spearheaded accreditation cycles that significantly improved the NAAC grades of the colleges he served.
His strategic vision ensured that Government Degree College Poonch attained an ‘A’ grade, setting a benchmark for academic and administrative excellence.
