SRINAGAR: A team from Bijbehara Police Station in Anantnag district, South Kashmir, arrested a 33-year-old fraudster in New Delhi on Saturday last.
A police official told Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com that the arrest followed the issuance of a Public Safety Act (PSA) warrant against him.
“The accused is wanted in multiple cases of cheating and forgery across Jammu and Kashmir. He is accused of defrauding dozens of individuals, including paramilitary personnel, by falsely promising bank loans for vehicle purchases and subsidy schemes,” he said.
He said that investigations revealed that he used forged documents to obtain loans in the names of CRPF personnel, exploiting their identities for personal gain.
“The accused’s criminal record includes at least 14 cases registered at various police stations across J&K, alongside numerous complaints filed against him in different courts,” the officer said.
“His arrest followed extensive surveillance in Delhi’s Jamia Masjid area, with the assistance of the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. During the arrest, police recovered critical evidence from the accused, including seven ICICI Bank debit cards in the names of CRPF personnel, a laptop, a mobile phone, forged stamps, bank documents, and identity cards,” he said.
“Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the accused’s activities,” the officer added. (KDC)
