SRINAGAR: A local Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, wanted in connection with the Gagangir tunnel attack, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Dachigam forests of Srinagar on Tuesday, sources said.
Sources told Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com that a militant killed during an ongoing operation in the Dachigam forests of Srinagar has been identified as Junaid Ramzan Bhat, a local Lashkar-e-Taiba commander from Kulgam area of South Kashmir.
According to police , security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the upper reaches of Dachigam forest based on specific intelligence last night. The gunfight began when the forces pinpointed the location of the suspect.
Junaid Ramzan Bhat, involved in the October attack on the Gagangir Sonamarg tunnel site, was among the most-wanted militants. (KDC)
