Srinagar: Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina celebrated Iqbal Day with great zeal and enthusiasm to honor the legacy of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the renowned philosopher, poet, and visionary. The event was organised to inspire students by highlighting Iqbal’s contributions to Urdu literature, his philosophy, and his role in motivating the youth to strive for self-discovery and excellence.
The celebrations began in the college auditorium with recitation of Holy Verses of Quran followed By Naat-e Rasool (saw). Dr Gulshan Abdullah of the Urdu department presented the keynote addres. In her speech, she highlighted all important aspects of Iqbal’s poetry and personality. The program was inagurated by Prof. Yasmeen Farooq, Principal of the college. She emphasized upon Iqbal’s contributions to literature and other fields of education. The principal encouraged students to incorporate Iqbal’s teachings on self-reliance and perseverance into their lives, making the most of their abilities to serve the nation.
A speech competition was organized on the occasion where participants passionately spoke on topics like “Iqbal’s Vision of Youth,” “The Concept of Khudi (Selfhood) in Iqbal’s Poetry,” and “Iqbal’s Role in Awakening Muslims of the Subcontinent.” The speeches showcased students’ interest and understanding of Iqbal’s philosophy, as well as their ability to connect with his ideas of relevance in the contemporary era.
Dr Tanveer Habib, from the Department of English, spoke on this occasion. In his speech he highlighted the tradition of poetry in Islam and how Allama Iqbal was a poet par excellence who succeeded in transmitting the message of Islam through his poetic art.
The event concluded with a cultural performance that included renditions of Iqbal’s poetry in the form of musical performances, which energized the audience and provided a creative interpretation of Iqbal’s literary contributions. The celebration was a fitting tribute to a thinker whose words continue to inspire generations across the globe especially the sub-continent.
