SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s resolution on ‘special status’ and constitutional guarantees has been forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir for further necessary action, in accordance with Rule 188 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Legislative Assembly.
“I am, accordingly, directed to forward the same for further necessary action at your end please,” reads a communiqué from the J&K Legislative Assembly addressed to the Chief Secretary, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Dot Com.
The resolution, moved by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and seconded by Minister Sakina Masood Itoo, calls for the restoration of the special status that was unilaterally revoked in 2019.
It urges the Government of India to initiate a dialogue with the elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir to work out constitutional mechanisms for restoring the region’s constitutional safeguards.
The assembly also states that the restoration process must balance national unity with the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. (KDC)
