Govt Appoints Chief Justices for 8 High Courts; Justice Tashi is New CJ of J&K

Srinagar, Sept 21: The centre on Saturday notified the appointment of Chief Justices for eight High Courts.

As per an order following appointments were made;

1. Justice Manmohan presently Acting CJ of Delhi High Court is appointed as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

2. Justice Rajiv Shakdher presently Judge of Delhi HC is appointed as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.

3. Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, Judge of Delhi HC, is appointed as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

4. Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, Judge of Calcutta HC is appointed as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

5. Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, Judge of Bombay HC, is appointed as Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.

6. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge of J&K&L HC is appointed as Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh High Court.

7. Justice KR Shriram, Judge of Bombay HC, appointed as Chief Justice of Madras High Court.

8. Justice MS Ramachandra Ra presently CJ of HP HC, appointed as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal posted on his official X-handle about the appointment.

The Supreme Court collegium initially made the recommendations for these High Courts on July 11. Two months later, on September 17, the Collegium modified three of its earlier proposals (regarding Justices Kait, Rabstan and GS Sandhawalia), reported Live Law.

The Collegium has also proposed that Justice GS Sandhawalia (Punjab & Haryana High Court) be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court after the retirement of Justice Shakhder on October 18.
