SRINAGAR: The Cyber Police Kashmir has issued an advisory to WhatsApp group administrators, warning them against sharing unverified or unconfirmed news that can lead to unnecessary panic and misinformation among the public.

In a statement to the Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, the Cyber Police Kashmir cautioned that spreading rumors or misinformation can result in legal action under the IT Act.

“Posting or sharing unverified or unconfirmed news can lead to unnecessary panic and misinformation among the public. Refrain from spreading rumors or misinformation,” the statement said. “WhatsApp group administrators are responsible for ensuring that the content shared in their groups is authentic and verified. Violating this can result in legal action under the IT Act. Stay informed, stay responsible!”

SP Cyber Police Kashmir, Iftkhar Talib, emphasizes, “The spread of unverified, sensational news can create chaos and anxiety among the general public. We advise all users and group admins to be cautious and responsible in their online activities to avoid legal consequences.”
