SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir and President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, has called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to publicly disclose the reasons behind the rejection of Sarjan Barkati’s nomination form.
In a post on X, Mufti, as per Kashmir Dot Com, expressed concern over the decision while sharing a short video of Sarjan Barkati’s daughter weeping. She stated that democracy thrives on the battle of ideas and that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
“Sorry to hear about the rejection of the assembly nomination form of Sarjan Barkati from Zainapora. The Election Commissioner must make the reasons public for this decision. Democracy is a battle of ideas, and everyone should be given a chance to participate in it,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a post on X.
Barkati, a prominent cleric and political figure from Zainapora, Shopian district, saw his candidacy for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections disqualified during the scrutiny process. (KDC)
