Srinagar, July 09; KDC: In response to the ongoing fiscal distress and the imposition of additional financial burdens, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday launched  an online petition to make J&K “meter-free.”

In a statement issued to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, PDP said,”In recent years, the people of J&K have been burdened with property tax, electricity meters, sand mining, soil extraction, and now even water meters. These measures are exacerbating the economic strain on our citizens, and such critical decisions impacting basic needs must be made by a popular government that reflects the will of the people.”

“Renegotiating with NHPC on power projects is essential. The people of J&K deserve free electricity, as most of our produced power is outsourced to other states with no benefits to the region. It’s time to prioritize the well-being of J&K’s citizens over profit-driven policies. We urge everyone to support our petition and stand with us in this crucial fight for justice and economic relief,” they said in the statement.

“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of Jammu and Kashmir’s residents.  Join us in our pledge for a Meter-Free J&K. Sign the petition and help us ensure that the rights and needs of our people are put first.” the statement added. (KDC)
