Srinagar, June 04: With his rival, Er Rashid leading with over one lakh votes, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief minister and National Conference candidate for Baramulla Omar Abdullah has said that “it is time to accept the inevitable”.

“I think it’s time to accept the inevitable. Congratulations to Engineer Rashid for his victory in North #Kashmir. I don’t believe his victory will hasten his release from prison nor will the people of North Kashmir get the representation they have a right to but the voters have spoken and in a democracy that’s all that matters,” said Omar Abdullah, in a post on X.

Er. Rashid, who has emerged as a dark horse, has polled over 2 lakh votes. Rashid is currently in jail and his son ran his election campaign, drawing strong crowds.

As per the latest data released by the ECI, Omar Abdullah was trailing behind, Engineer Rashid of Awami Itihad Party (AIP) by over 108,847 votes.
