Krishnanagar (West Bengal), March 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Indian railways are a part of the glorious history of West Bengal, and the historical progress that it had achieved could not be properly maintained after independence.

The PM further said that his government is spending today more than twice as much as before on the rail infrastructure of Bengal.

Addressing a gathering in Krishnanagar after launching several multiple developmental projects, PM Modi said, “…From the infrastructure point of view, railways are a part of the glorious history of West Bengal, but the historical progress that Bengal had achieved could not be properly maintained after independence. That is why, despite all the possibilities, Bengal remained behind.”

“In the last 10 years, we have laid a lot of emphasis on the rail infrastructure here to bridge that gap; today, our government is spending more than twice as much as before on the rail infrastructure of Bengal…,” PM Modi said.
