BARAMULLA, FEBRUARY 28, KDC: In a significant and breakthrough achievement, medical experts at Govt Medical College (GMC) Baramulla today successfully performed a heart surgery, called in medical terminology as Permanent Dual Chamber Pacemaker Implant in an 80-year-old patient with complaint of recurrent loss of consciousness and conduction block.

This is a first-of-its-kind facility among the new Medical Colleges and will prove to be a boon to the health sector of North Kashmir. This facility will benefit the people of North Kashmir in general and senior citizens in particular, who otherwise had to travel to Srinagar or outside state for Pacemaker Implants.

As per the Principal of GMC, a team of doctors’ lead by Dr. Mudassir Muzamil & Dr. Owais performed this procedure which took 1 hour. The team was assisted by Dr. Javaid Ahmad and technical staff led by Jaffar Ahmad and as per reports, the patient is doing well post-surgery.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the college and Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital congratulated the team of Doctors of the Department of Medicine for achieving the feat in cardiac surgery domain. They said that such operations are being performed at very few centres in Kashmir.

They asserted that the Medicine department will be provided with advanced surgical equipment for delivering top end facilities to the heart patients of North Kashmir. (KDC)
