Srinagar. July 30, KDC: An interactive session of students with Kashmiri student leader and National spokesperson of Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) Nasir Khuehami was held at RCA girls college Mathura Uttar Pradesh, in which students interacted with the student activist over a range of topics related to Article 370, Kashmir Files and also regarding the involvement of Kashmiri youth in mainstream politics and youth centric initiatives.
Speaking on the range of issues, Khuehami put forward the post August 5 2019 narratives that Kashmir witnessed after abrogation of Article 370. Khuehami who is regular television panellist, also presented before the audience the perspective of mainstream political parties vis a viz the abrogation of special status & the subsequent narratives surrounding the constitutional changes.
Commenting on Article 370, he said that the way it was abrogated was wrong and the government kept all the democratic stakeholders in the dark. The strength of sovereignty lies with the people. He refused to speak further on the matter, noting that it was sub-judice in the Supreme Court. The Government of India needs to reach out to the youth of Kashmir, build their trust, talk to Common Man and win the hearts of people. Government has to address the legitimate aspirations of the people of J & K to restore peace, prosperity in the region, he added.
“As a student activist who has been tirelessly pressing the issues of student community, it pained me to the core when nothing was in offering to redress the issues and genuine concerns of student community who originally are west Pakistani refugees now settled in Jammu province since many decades”, said Khuehami apparently referring to the erstwhile “State vs Non State subject” debate that remained bone of contention. “At least, they have a sense of security now”, added Khuehami.
On Kashmir Files, the student activist, said that the association raised an alarm as soon as the situation became charged post release of the movie in theaters. “We received distress calls from students of a particular community belonging to JKUT. The students felt threatened as trauma post Pulwama attack was still fresh. I assured them every possible effort to ensure their safety”, said Nasir.
“Imagine someone from Generation Z paying a price or feeling threatened because some incidents have taken place in Kashmir before he/she was even born. What sort of message are we giving? Almost all of those who study in different parts of the country are born after 90. They are young ambitious citizens like any other student from any part of the country. Why should they suffer?” said Khuehami.
The Principal and organisers of the interaction program at RCA girls college expressed satisfaction and appreciated the speaker for being balanced in his arguments. Nasir Khuehami also expressed his deepest sense of gratitude for the student community and organisers at Mathura for being hospitable & welcoming. He impressed upon the principal of RCA College Dr Preeti Jhori to hold such interactive programs in future also so as to help bridge the gaps. (KDC)
