Srinagar, Apr 16: International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK Saturday condemned the nocturnal police raids in Habak area of Srinagar City that had allegedly led to the killing of a 60-year-old woman who died of heart attack while her son was being taken away by Jammu and Kashmir police personnel during a night raid at about 2:30 a.m on Thursday.
He said “Identified as Khadija, a mother of four, the woman collapsed in front of her family and was later declared brought dead at a hospital.”
In a statement, chairman of the IFJHRJK Muhammad Ahsan Untoo said that “Police has become a terrorising force for the common people in Kashmir and they are detaining and torturing youths without any reasons.’
“Untoo cautioned that the brutality of the police is not going to solve the issues but it will instead further complicate the situations and it is becoming the main reason for increase in the political uncertainty and instability in Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Untoo expressed deep concern and anguish that the police department is although meant to maintain peace and protect the lives and property of the common people but in Jammu & Kashmir it is acting contrary to that and to appease the masters in New Delhi,” he asked?
‘If the police had to arrest any person in the area, they should have informed the local Mohalla committee or the elders of the locality and taken them along.
“Raiding a home in the dead of the night tantamount to breach of privacy and trampling of basic human rights,” Untoo said.
