Srinagar, Mar 27, KDC: One among the three Army soldiers who was injured in an ongoing gunfight which broke out between Militants and Security forces in Wangam village of Shopian in South Kashmir, succumbed to his injuries at 92 base Army hospital Srinagar.

Sources told News Agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that Army soldier belonging to 34 Rashtriya rifles identified as Pinku Kumar, a resident Bagpat district of Uttar Pradesh, who had received bullet wounds earlier during the gunfight, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Sources said another soldier Mandeep Kumar of the same unit has also been brought to the BB cant hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Police said that during the joint operation it killed an unidentified militant and recovered an American made M-04 from the encounter site, adding that the operation is still on.

Earlier, a joint team of Police, army’s 34 RR and CRPF had launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which retaliated triggering an encounter.”

Moreover, searches are on in the area as more militants are believed to be trapped. (KDC)
