Srinagar, Dec 14, KDC: Unknown gunmen shot dead a guard of PDP leader Haji Parvaiz on Monday in Natipora area of Srinagar.

A Police officer told news agency KDC that militants attacked the residence of PDP leader Haji Parvaiz Ahmad, leaving his PSO critically injured, he was rushed to Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar where doctors referred him to SMHS Hospital in critical conditions. However he succumbed to his injuries later.

He identified the cop as Constable Manzoor Ahmad belt no. 328, a resident of Dalipora Chadoora of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

“He had gone to the market to buy milk and was shot near the entry gate of PDP leader’s residence”, he added.

Meanwhile, a wreath laying ceremony of the slain cop was held at District Police Lines Srinagar later in the afternoon. Top police officials including DGP, IGP Kashmir attended the ceremony.

While talking to media persons on the sidelines of the ceremony DGP, Dilbagh Singh said, “We have all clues of how many gunmen were involved in the attack and from where they came and they will soon be brought to book”.

The DGP marked today’s attack as an attempt to disturb the prevailing peaceful environment of the valley.

The cop’s body after all necessary formalities was sent to his ancestral village Dalipora Nagam of Chadoora where he was laid to rest.

Police have registered a case under various sections of law in this regard and a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers. (KDC)
