Srinagar, Dec 07, KDC: PDP Chief and former Chief Minister of ertswhile state of J&K, Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar on Monday filed a petition in a local court in Srinagar seeking dismissal of the defamation suit filed way back in the year 2004.

The formation of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) has not only brought together the central parties of Kashmir, but also paved the way for cordial relations between all the leaders.

Officials told that Mehbooba Mufti and Ali Muhammad Sagar on Monday filed a defamation suit before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Srinagar.

It may be recalled that Sagar had filed a defamation suit against Mehbooba in 2004, Lok Sabha elections and had accused Mehbooba Mufti of rigging the Lok Sabha elections and indulging in booth capturing. Sagar was then the NC vice president Omar Abdullah’s chief polling agent.

However, Mehbooba Mufti had approached the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to dismiss the case. The court had rejected the petition of Mehbooba Mufti and had directed the trial court to take further action.

On Monday, the lawyers of both the parties filed a joint petition in the Srinagar court seeking dismissal of the case. Advocate Shabir Ahmed Khan and Advocate Rafiq Ahmed represented the Ali Muhammad Sagar appeared while Advocate Jawad Rishi represented Mehbooba Mufti.

Advocate Ahmed said that the two leaders have decided to work together in the interest of the people.

“Now that they are working together, there is no need to move forward on this issue,” he said.

He further said that Mehbooba Mufti and Ali Muhammad Sagar have decided to withdraw the case to resolve all differences. (KDC)
