Srinagar, Dec 06, KDC: Jammu Kashmir Teachers’Forum has congratulated all those associated with the ongoing enrolment drive.

In a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com -(KDC), the president Mohammad Akbar Khan while expressing joy and satisfaction hailed the role played by teachers in the process. Teachers have undertook the door to door survey with vigour and enthusiasm. He said that time has taught us that learners are the cornerstones around whom the department is thriving.

Praising the role of Director School Education Kashmir, Chief Education Officers, Zonal Education Officers etc in the current enrollment drive, Khan said that these officers have led from the front and have played a proactive role in the process. He sought the support of different Government and Non-government agencies to become the ambassador’s of Government run schools. Government besides providing free and compulsory education to children upto 14 years provide the learners with Mid-day meals, scholarships, free uniforms, books and diverse opportunities to excel.

The president, said that the department of school education has a special provision for the education of Children With Special Needs (CWSN). With a workforce comprising of more than 1 lakh qualified and highly skilled teachers the department is bringing in new advancements in the process of teaching & learning. The President enumerated the basic objectives of the enrollment drive. The objectives have been given hereunder.

“The enrollment drive will help to compile the data base of village/ward/habitation/municipality. This exercise will help to update the village Population register. This will help to sensitise teachers at gross root level. Orientation of HOI’s will take place which will prove beneficial for the rejuvenation of an ailing education system. The process will provide us with the status of child population in the age groups of 3-5 & 6-14. Identification of Out Of School Children & Children with Special Needs will take place. This will ensure mass mobilization of Human Resource for child identification and universal enrollment. Children can be drafted into formal schooling as and when they reach the age of Wide publicity, Mass campaign, Door to door Surveys, Poster Campaigns, Media campaigns have given a new lease of life to education sector. This campaign will give a sense of belongingness & idea of ownership to all the stakeholders. This process will bring to spotlight the availability of resources, schemes and top notch faculty in Government Sector,” the statement reads.

Statement further reads “The president while enumerating the main objectives of the mass enrollment drive also provided some suggestions. He hoped that the department will reflect upon these suggestions & create a conducive atmosphere both for teachers and learners for the greater good of the department”.

They said “There is no denying the fact that establishment of Kindergartens is a progressive step aimed at revamping the elementary education scenario but the ownership of these Kindergartens must be given to ZEO’s and more importantly the head of the institutions”.

Teacher Forum in their statement said “The Kindergartens should ideally be adopted by the most dedicated gazetted officer/lecturer/Senior Lecturer of the concerned zone or district under the School Mentorship Programme .A target needs to be set for Kindergartens established in 2020. Kindergartens established in 2020 must ensure a minimum enrollment of 30 and older Kindergartens an enrollment of 50. A target must be provided to the concerned ZEO & the HOI for the same.’

“All the learners for a Kindergarten would not come from the area where it is established. The learners will come from the adjoining areas too. But the lack of transport for the wards proves as the detterant in the process. A provision where the HOI would arrange the transport facility of the kindergarten in lieu of a small sum from the concerned parents will prove to be beneficial.”

“In order to infuse a new life in education sector, schools in towns must be provided with two of the best known teachers & they must be given the ownership of the schools alongwith bringing them under School Mentorship Programme”, statement added.(KDC)
