DDC elections Phase II: Several Pulwama villages witness O % Voting

Pulwama, Dec 01, KDC: Up for the second phase of DDC elections, around 8 booths in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district recorded 0% turnout. The total turnout for the southern district remained at 8.67%. Villages under Shadimarg and Tral block of the district went for polling on Tuesday. Karmulla village hamlet witnessed highest turnout of 59.80%.

Deputy Electoral Officer, Pulwama, Gulzar Ahmad Rather while talking to news agency KDC said, “ We had a smooth polling across the two blocks, with no untoward incident”. He also said that under second phase a total of 103 polling stations were set up in the district, 60 in Tral Block and 43 in Shadimarg Block for polling.

Out of almost 50,000 registered voters (under phase-II) in these two blocks only 4341 people casted their vote.

Meanwhile keeping in view the volatility of the area, authorities had suspended Internet in Pulwama district, which was later restored in the evening hours.

While talking to news agency KDC, an In-charge officer at Shairabad polling booth of Tral said, “Among 243 and 501 registered voters of Shairabad (4) and Shairabad (3) Halqas respectively; no one was up to cast their vote”.  Amid 3 tier security no one visited the polling booth in this particular area.

According to local sources, villages Chandpora, Arabal and Nikas in Shadimarg block witnessed 0% voting.

In first phase of these elections Pulwama district had recorded lowest turnout of 6.70%. (KDC)
